A Year for Champions

A Year for Champions

There have been so many exciting things that happen this semester, we thought we should take a look back on the highlights.  Grab a snack, sit back, and press play on this semester’s highlights reel.

We start this look back on Move in Day and the First Day of Classes!  Hanging up clothes, getting textbooks, and meeting our professors; it was a busy few weeks while everyone became adjusted to new schedules and met new people.  But we knew this great start was just setting us all up for an even greater semester.

Next we saw the Student Council voted in.  There were decorated signs and maybe a few bribes.  The students worked hard to be voted into one of the seven highly favored offices. All the hard work paid off and congratulations were put in order for those students that won.  The Student Council worked hard all semester as they had meetings and planned activities.  They were active participants in Stomp Out Hunger and organized the Champion float for the Hot Springs Christmas Parade.

Several of our students were blessed with the opportunity to apply for financial academic scholarships.  Champion was given an anonymous, generous donation for students education.  Multiple students were given discounts on their school bill and were thankful for this opportunity.

The library was even given an update in fall 2017.  It was expanded, painted, and new staff was hired.  The hours of operation were extended, giving students more time to find books.  This is a wonderful resource for students to use to write their papers and study.  There are a wide assortment of books; from academic to leisure, the library is somewhere you want to stop and visit.

Some of the biggest news to hit Champion’s campus was the announcement of candidacy status for accreditation. On October 24, Champion Christian College was granted candidacy status by TRACS. This has been a process that has been prayed over and worked on for several months by staff, faculty, and students. The excitement was felt around campus.  This status will help our students make more of an impact for Christ after graduation. Students will now be able to apply for financial aid and allows for the transfer of credits.

Students, faculty, and staff were saddened to be informed of the passing of Dr. Francis Grubbs.  Dr. Grubbs was loved and admired around our campus.  He helped the college grow and worked hard these past few years to advance the process of accreditation. He will be remembered and missed at Champion.

The men’s basketball team has made a name for themselves wherever they go, but nothing can compare to a double overtime win against cross town rivals, National Park College.  The game turned into standing room only and it was loud.  Our boys never lost heart and gave it all on the court.  The Tigers walked away with the win and some bragging rights.  Fans will look forward to this rivalry game for years to come.

Champion made sure to end this year with a bang and a party.  The Champion Christian College Christmas Party is an event that nobody wants to miss. This year’s event was a pajama party with a special showing of Elf. There was food, friends, and a lot of fun.

Champion has had an eventful fall 2017 semester, and we look forward to what God has in store for spring 2018.  Thank you for walking with us and continue to stay tuned on where God will lead our college.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
